Uxío da Vila

Madrid Spain 1970

The work of Uxío da Vila (Madrid, 1970) turns around such personal and everyday concepts as human identity, the passage of time, intimacy, the perception of reality, and memory. Uxío da Vila

Bachelor in Law and winner of two Lux Photography Awards, he took his first steps in photography as a self-taught artist, always working analogically and creating a completely autobiographical body of work where he constantly portrays his numerous obsessions, forming part of a unique universe encompassing his past, present, and future. Photography as a metaphor for the human being, a mirror of their variable and ephemeral identity where one can look and see themselves reflected or where they can escape through distractions and interventions, papers, installations, vanishing points, compositions, or oversights. In contrast to this idea of identity, Uxío da Vila also proposes a game about the authorship of the works, reflecting on how relevant this would be. An exercise that reveals the true fragility of a concept like our own identity, which is practically an abstraction. A synthesis of his essence and his own drift.
