Made in China
It's a painting exhibition.
China is a place I didn't know about.
And I inadvertently ended up here.
I got here.
And I painted about something I thought about but forgot, when I went to the BBVA and got lost on the way, I painted a salsa song about a girl who has no talent but is good looking, the phones in other countries and the phones in Spain, a restaurant with a big weekend car park. There really are infinite things to paint about.
I painted a lot. I already feel like I paint as a joke. As if I were a little girl playing at being an abstract painter.
I had never been to China. But I soon realised that China was always there. And that you simply have to make a resolution to go to China. Like a New Year's resolution that you never keep. China is something like that.
I painted over all the things I remembered and some hypothetical ones.
So all laid out on the canvas I thought it was perfect for tidying up all the things that have been cluttering up my mind this year. But it's not easy to tidy up. Because every day you want to keep everything in a different place. And everything has to be sorted again. It also annoys me how little time it takes to de-clutter compared to how long it takes to tidy up.
Like Chinese cuisine. It has a lot of ingredients and it takes a long time to prepare the dough, the filling, the sauce. But then it takes you a second to eat the dumpling. And that's it. Just like ordering.
The text is as abstract as the painting. As is my situation and as is the exhibition.
It's abstract from afar, but closer up figures you recognise.
