Christoph Rymon

The particular and colorful universe of Christoph Rymon (Berlin, 1983) portrays today's consumer society through icons and memories of his childhood, marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall and the impact of Western culture on his life, family and environment.

After being born and growing up in the dreary Berlin neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg in the 1980s, surrounded by shades of gray and limitations to consumption, Christoph Rymon's life took a 360° turn in the 1990s with the fall of the Berlin Wall. Overwhelmed by the colors and smells of these new times, Rymon surrendered to the colorful consumer world of the West and became fascinated by the icons of the moment. His work captures his lost childhood memories, immortalizing those desires and wishes he had as a child, a unique universe where the viewer can play, have fun and immerse himself in a perfect atmosphere of the nineties.

"I would love to be a Tintin character, the Wizard of Oz or the Tin Man; to be part of an Indiana Jones adventure and find treasure and lost islands; to be a pirate of the Caribbean or to fly in a rocket ship to the stars and discover a new galaxy with new friends there," Rymon says, "So all my characters come from a different imaginary universe and most of them have a hook in their hand."

Christoph Rymon studied sound engineering and worked for several years as a musician and producer, reaching more than 10 million plays and playing at different festivals internationally. Disappointed by the limited creative possibilities of the music world, he found in painting the way to tell unique and different stories to art lovers without having to please millions of people. The influence of music on his canvases is fundamental. Musical hooks, repetition and lyrics of songs or greatest hits are part of a particular imaginary that combines his love for art with his passion for music.
