The very young Madrid artist Beatriz Dubois opens in September her second exhibition at Río & Meñaka Madrid and later in LONDON, where she challenges the viewer's patience when observing the final piece in the face of the immediate and massive consumption of images.
WeCollect Club's CASTELLANA 22 space opens on September 6 “Hablar”, the second solo show by artist Beatriz Dubois (Madrid, 1991), made up of some twenty large and small-format collages that challenge the viewer's patience when observing the final piece, inviting to stop and recognize in the face of the immediate and massive consumption of images of today. The exhibition will have its second half in London from December 12 at the County Hall Gallery, which is the first solo show in the British capital of the very young Spanish artist.
Made with different collage techniques, Beatriz Dubois' works are composed of fragments of selected photographs that show the relationship between the individual and nature, a very recurrent association in her work. This combination is very familiar each one separately but by making the braided weft characteristic of her works - a formal evolution of her previous work - forces the viewer to further contemplation. “Until now I have been interweaving images, vertically and in layers, to propose to the viewer a search for identities. In this new work I have focused on taking a step further in terms of audience involvement and the use of composition, a manipulation that demands greater body movement and an inevitable work-spectator relationship,” comments the artist.
Belonging to a new generation of artists with mainly visual references, Beatriz Dubois incorporates in her new work her interest in words and texts, “a need to add writings to my didactic process, reaffirming my admiration for words. I have found their ambiguity enormously attractive and powerful”. The result is a series of works made with intervened texts, collages without glue, stitched papers in which literature becomes visual and reflection becomes the work itself. In addition, and unlike other of his pieces, they imply an almost immediate understanding. Word and image complement each other in an exercise of observation that bets on a slow intimacy with the spectator and talks about how they consume the words in relation to the images.
GRADUATED IN ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS FROM THE CEU SAN PABLO UNIVERSITY AND GRADUATED IN PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE EFTI SCHOOL OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGE CENTER, BEATRIZ DUBOIS (MADRID, 1991) USES PHOTOGRAPHY AS THE BASIS OF HER WORK AND PAPER AS A SUPPORT FOR ANALOGUES AND COMPOSITIONS COLLAGES. IN HER PIECES SHE REFLECTS ON TOPICS SUCH AS THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE INDIVIDUAL WITH NATURE, THE SEARCH FOR ONE'S OWN IDENTITY, THE BOND OF THE HUMAN BEING WITH THE OUTSIDE AND WITH HIMSELF, THE SLOW CONTEMPLATION OF ART IN THE FACE OF THE MASS CONSUMPTION OF IMAGES OR THE USE OF DUALITIES AND ANALOGIES AS THE CONCEPTUAL BASIS OF HIS WORK. HER WORK IS PART OF IMPORTANT PRIVATE COLLECTIONS SUCH AS THE HIMALAYA COLLECTION, CAMPOCERRADO COLLECTION, ALICIA AZA COLLECTION OR ENTRECANALES COLLECTION, AMONG OTHERS, AND HAS BEEN EXHIBITED IN MORE THAN A DOZEN INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP EXHIBITIONS, SUCH AS “DECISIVE MOMENTS OF PHOTOGRAPHY.
