Beatriz Dubois

The young artist Beatriz Dubois (Madrid, 1991) opens her first individual exhibition in London, “Talk”, where she shows a selection of her latest works that challenge the viewer's patience when observing the final piece in the face of immediate and mass consumption of pictures.

The exhibition, which will take place from April 25 to June 2, 2019 at Río & Meñaka London, is the artist's third individual exhibition and shows twenty large and small format collages that invite you to stop, recognize and reflect on the work. of art in the face of the immediate and massive consumption of current images. Made with different collage techniques, Beatriz Dubois' works are composed of fragments of selected photographs that show the relationship between the individual and nature, a very recurring association in her work. This combination is very familiar, each one separately, but by creating the braided weave characteristic of her works—a formal evolution of her previous work— it forces the viewer to greater contemplation. “Until now I interspersed images, vertically and in layers, to propose to the viewer a search for identities. In this new work I have focused on going one step further in terms of the involvement of the public and the use of composition, a manipulation that requires greater body movement and an inevitable work-spectator relationship,” comments the artist.

Belonging to a new generation of artists with mainly visual references, Beatriz Dubois incorporates her interest in words and texts in her new work, “a need to add writing to my teaching process, reaffirming my admiration for words. I found its ambiguity enormously attractive and powerful.” The result is a series of works made with intervened texts, collages without glue, sewn papers in which literature becomes visual and reflection becomes the work itself. Furthermore, and unlike his other pieces, they imply almost immediate understanding. Word and image complement each other in an observation exercise that focuses on a slow intimacy with the viewer and talks about how they consume words in relation to images.

Graduated in Advertising and Public Relations from the CEU San Pablo University and graduated in professional photography from the EFTI School of Photography and Image Center, Beatriz Dubois (Madrid, 1991) uses photography as the basis of her work and paper as a support for analogues and compositions collages. In her pieces she reflects on topics such as the relationship of the individual with nature, the search for one's own identity, the bond of the human being with the outside and with himself, the slow contemplation of art in the face of the mass consumption of images or the use of dualities and analogies as the conceptual basis of his work. Her work is part of important private collections such as the Himalaya Collection, Campocerrado Collection, Alicia Aza Collection or Entrecanales Collection, among others, and has been exhibited in more than a dozen individual and group exhibitions, such as “Decisive Moments of Photography.
