Arte Santander 2023

15 - 19 JULY 2023
SANTANDER SPAIN

A TRIBUTE TO ADOLESCENCE. “TEEN” IS THE PROJECT CARRIED OUT BY THE ARTIST NURIA MORA (MADRID, 1974) SPECIFICALLY FOR THE ARTESANTANDER 2023 FAIR, WHERE SHE REFLECTS AND DEEPES INTO EVERYDAY CONCEPTS SUCH AS FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS, THE CONSTRUCTION OF INTIMATE MEMORIES, HOME, NOSTALGIA, PERSONAL CARTOGRAPHIES AND ADOLESCENCE. IN HER LATEST WORKS, NURIA MORA HAS EXPLORED THE PARALLELISM BETWEEN HER DISTANT ADOLESCENCE AND THE CURRENT AGE OF SOME OF HER CLOSE RELATIVES AND DISCOVERING, DESPITE THE PASSAGE OF TIME, POINTS OF CONNECTION, SYMBOLS AND COMMON BEHAVIORS BETWEEN HER ADOLESCENCE AND THE ADOLESCENCES OF TODAY WHICH OBSERVES FROM MATURITY. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLDS BUT WITH MANY MORE LINKS IN COMMON THAN WE IMAGINE. AN EXAMPLE IS THE SERIES OF PAINTINGS “ENTER SANDMAN”, WHICH ARE PART OF THIS PROJECT, WHICH MAKES DIRECT REFERENCE TO THE SONG BY METALLICA, THE FAVORITE GROUP OF HER NEPHEW AND MANY TEENAGERS, WHICH HAS ALSO BEEN THE FAVORITE GROUP OF THE ARTIST, HIS SISTER AND HIS GROUP OF FRIENDS DURING HER TEENAGE. THE SONG TALKS ABOUT THE MYTH OF SANDMAN, A CHARACTER WHO POURS SAND ON PEOPLE'S EYES SO THEY CAN SLEEP BETTER AND HAVE BETTER DREAMS. IN A METAPHORICAL WAY, NURIA MORA INCORPORATES SAND INTO HER CANVAS AS NEW TO HER CANVAS JUST TO WISH YOU GOOD DREAMS, GOOD LUCK.
