"I decided to observe what surrounds me, distort the everydayness of objects, and create a series of still lifes with elements that would never have been found for their utility."

Marta Lapeña's works (Soria, 1993) recreate everyday scenes that suggest calm and tranquility, contrasting with a modern world full of over-information and visual stimuli. Distractions that influence both observation and feeling, as well as creating calmly from the most instinctive and natural part of the human being. This is the starting point for the artist: her instinct. With it, she alters the levels of reality to which we are constantly subjected and turns painting into an escape route and a means to evoke her own reality.

Finding beauty in our surroundings and defining the moment simply with objects through painting are Marta Lapeña's two great obsessions. Her compositions, generated from elements she finds, collects, and photographs herself, gather certain characteristics that make them unique: the moment (the light), the place (the space), and its aesthetic patterns (the vision), three constants in her creative process. Both technique and composition are always a concern in her works, in a constant search for harmony, where she also combines two different worlds under the same process: the canvas and the wall; the street and the studio. Hence her inclination for large formats and color synthesis, a clear influence from her training as an interior architect, reflected in the compositions and integration into the environment. "By distancing these compositions from classic or established patterns and letting myself be carried away by the aesthetics that work before my eyes, everything is replaceable. Nothing is fixed or predictable."

Marta Lapeña is a visual artist and muralist. She lives and works in Madrid. After graduating in Interior Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, she decides by vocation to devote herself to painting and researching different techniques, later focusing on the conception and development of artistic, social, and personal projects. Her work lies between painting and muralism, sometimes materialized in specific projects and others in more experimental proposals. Her work is inherently influenced by experiences from everyday life, people she has met, the environment that surrounds her, and the social issues that concern her.
